Adoption

1. What Adoption Means

Adoption is NOT:

  • A certification
  • A badge or endorsement
  • A binary "installed / not installed" state

Adoption IS:

  • A lifecycle with distinct stages
  • A signal-based recognition
  • A self-declared state (no external authority)

2. Adoption Lifecycle

MPLP adoption follows a three-stage lifecycle:

┌─────────────┐ ┌─────────────┐ ┌─────────────┐
│ EVALUATION │ ──► │ PILOT │ ──► │ PRODUCTION │
└─────────────┘ └─────────────┘ └─────────────┘

2.1 Evaluation Stage

AspectDescription
GoalUnderstand if MPLP fits the use case
ActivitiesRead docs, run Golden Flows, validate schemas
SignalsSDK installed, test fixtures run
EvidenceNone required (no production data)

2.2 Pilot Stage

AspectDescription
GoalValidate MPLP in a controlled environment
ActivitiesIntegration with real agent, limited scope
SignalsEvidence Pack generated, Conformance evaluated
EvidencePilot-scoped Context, Plan, Trace

2.3 Production Stage

AspectDescription
GoalFull operational use of MPLP
ActivitiesAgent system in production with MPLP governance
SignalsOngoing evidence production, audit readiness
EvidenceFull production Evidence Packs
ConceptQuestionLocation
AdoptionIs this system using MPLP?/docs/guides/adoption
ConformanceDoes this system match the spec?/docs/evaluation/conformance
EnterpriseIs organizational accountability required?/docs/guides/enterprise
ImplementationHow do I build with MPLP?/docs/guides

4. Adoption Signals

See Adoption Signals for the signal definitions.

Key signals include:

  • SDK Installation — First contact
  • Golden Flow Execution — Technical validation
  • Evidence Pack Generation — Pilot readiness
  • Conformance Evaluation — Production readiness

6. What This Section Does NOT Provide

We Do NOT ProvideReason

Adoption badgesNo endorsement
Adoption trackingExternal to protocol
Adoption metricsImplementation-specific
Adoption support tiersCommercial realm

See Non-Goals for full details.

Document Status: Informative (Adoption Definition)
Key Insight: Adoption = Lifecycle state, not certification
Lifecycle: Evaluation → Pilot → Production
Distinction: Adoption ≠ Conformance
